How about incorporating a countertop overhang of an extra foot or so of your island? This could be an awesome space for the kitchen queen or king to sit down to read a recipe book or sip a cup of coffee or tea!

What do you think about adding casters to your island that will allow it to move from one work station to another or even into the dining room to assist with serving a large gathering? The casters will allow the island to glide smoothly and then lock into place!

Pot racks are definitely an artful way to be both functional and decorative in the kitchen.

Consider incorporating a coffee corner into the design of your kitchen. This can be a very practical addition to a stylish kitchen. Be sure to have storage space for any items such as coffee, filters, cups, etc. that would be used with the coffee area.

Be sure to incorporate a divided cabinet that will accommodate those large items like baking sheets and cutting boards.

When thinking about glass front cabinets, be sure to consider opaque, frosted, textured or wavy glass. Anything with a pattern will hide a multitude of sins behind the cabinet doors. Items will look interesting without the burden of keeping them as neat as a pin!

If you have a dining spot near your kitchen and would like to define the area a bit, use a different type/style of tile to define the area. This will give it a rug type of look and really make the area stand out.

Backsplash areas have definitely come a long way over the years. They are a definite style statement while still functionally protecting the wall surface. Since this is typically a smaller space, sometimes you can afford to splurge a little. You can use neutral types of stones to highlight a larger area of relief tiles to create a work of art. Don't be afraid to get creative in this area.

There are many countertop options from granite to quartz to laminate. Be sure to research the pros and cons of each one before you make your investment.

Be creative with your windows in the kitchen area. It makes a room so cheery to have natural light.

We hope these tips have gotten your wheels turning. The options for kitchens seem endless and often times can be economically incorporated into your custom built home. Be sure to contact us at Owner Builder Network and we are happy to meet with you to discuss our services.
